Tomoe IV Katana - Damascus
The "Tomoe" or "Tomoye" is the name of one of Japan's oldest symbols. It is actually made up of three individual "magatama". It is said that many of the gods were created from these "magatama". The "Tomoe" comes in many forms, but the trinity spiral kind is largely associated with the Samurai.
The blade is forged, hammered and folded 'Pattern Welded Steel'. Commonly known as 'Damascus Steel' as the final product is very similar to the steel mined from the Damascus mines of a bygone era (hence the name). It is produced from laminating steels of different grades. They are then twisted together producing beautiful swirls and grain patterns. The final polishing, sharpening and treatment of the blade bring out these patterns to their full fruition.
The Tomoe IV Katana sports a subtle patterned, bright polished blade. This full tang, through tempered 'Damascus Steel' Katana blade features a beautiful 'Bo-Hi' (blood groove). A visually stunning and extremely sharp blade!
