Description

The Scottish basket hilt broadsword came into use in the 17th Century. The Jacobite soldier would have carried this sword in hand accompanied with a “targe” shield. Basket hilt styles were common all across Europe, the earliest styles dating back to the mid 1500s. But this style is truly Scottish and perhaps the most iconic of them all.

The sword features a large double sided carbon steel blade with triple fullers. The ornate basket in blackened steel is beautifully put together and is fitted with a bright red felt liner. The handle is timber, wrapped in leather and bound with fine wire wrap. This sword is complete with a timber scabbard bound in genuine leather with complimenting blackened steel fittings.

Full sized sword, in 1065AISI carbon steel.

Comes standard with fine, blunt edge. Can be sharpened for an additional charge.

      Scottish broadsword

Posted by Steve McNee on 5th Jun 2023

A superb quality full size replica of the popular basket-hilt broadsword used in Scotland for centuries. It has a solid weight and rigidity to it which impressed me, and feels like a sword should. The option of having it sharpened means that it will be ideal as a ceremonial sword for such events as family weddings for cake cutting. Meanwhile it will look awesome displayed on the wall with the targe.
