Description

The early 14th century was a time of shifting power and growing tensions across Europe. As the medieval world saw the rise of chivalric orders and feudal knights, the battlefield became a proving ground for warriors to demonstrate their honor and strength. During this period, swords were not just tools of war, but symbols of power and prestige. The Oakeshott XVI blade type was especially prized among knights for its long reach and versatility, making it ideal for the evolving nature of combat. Marked by the Hundred Years' War and the prominence of knightly orders like the Templars, the sword became central to a knight's identity.

This exceptional Oakeshott XVI longsword features a high carbon steel blade, expertly crafted for both cutting and thrusting. The deep fuller runs one-third of the blade's length, reducing weight while maintaining strength and balance. The diamond cross-section toward the tip enhances thrusting capability, crucial for armor-piercing combat. Equipped with a carbon steel crossguard and a peened pommel for both authenticity and durability, this sword is a masterclass in 14th-century craftsmanship. A unique leather chappe, or rain guard, shields the hand from the crossguard during battle and protects the blade from rains while sheathed. The leather-wrapped grip ensures comfort and control, making this sword a perfect balance of functionality and style—a true testament to the martial prowess of the time.

These stunning swords from Erik Steelcrafts come with ~1mm edges—refined but not fully sharpened. For those interested in a fully sharpened version for tameshigiri-style target cutting, we offer sharpening services upon request at Superior Swords.

      Great Sword

Posted by Steven Housley on 7th May 2025

Excellent service, and fast shipping. Product came protected and wrapped in plastic with a coat of oil. I could not be happier with the quality of this sword. I am of average build and can wield this in one hand with no issue. BUY THIS.

      XIV Longsword

It's always hard to know exactly what you're going to get buying a sword online. You can only look at dimensions and weight and hope the balance is right. This one feels amazingly light in the hand and has gone through a bunch of light targets with ease. I kinda want to swing it against some harder targets but it's too damn nice! Lol. Definite recommend :)

This is my second gladius. This sword, is as good as the first if not better, if that is possible. Craftmanship is superb.
